Toss Out the Toxic Sippy Cups and Bottles
01/23/2009
The information in the links below stunned me when I read of the harmful leaching
from certain plastic that is commonly used in many baby products -- Like the bottle
I used with my boys. But I've found some great sippy alternatives - woo hoo!
My twenty-month old is no longer using a bottle, but I am very conscious about what he drinks from. We are very pleased with the Born Free Botte-to-Sippy cups, they have a really gentle suction and they don't leach. They even look and feel like a bottle, so the transition was very easy.
Now that we have a full-budding toddler, we have introduced the THE SAFE SIPPY - and really like it! You can remove the handles, it's easy to clean and most importantly, it's safe. It's very cool looking and easy for little hands to grip. Two thumbs up the THE SAFE SIPPY.
The Safe Sippy™ stainless steel drink cup was created in response to the growing body of emerging scientific evidence about the dangers of toxic chemicals used to make many plastics. We chose stainless steel because it is clean, stable and durable. Because stainless steel is stable and inert, it does not interact with the foods and fluids it comes into contact with.
When plastic is heated – in the dishwasher, microwave or even in a hot car – chemicals leach out of the plastic into our foods. The entire list of negative health effects associated with these chemicals is too long to cover here, and The Safe Sippy™ stainless steel cup is only one small step in stemming their flow. But it is well known that chemicals such as Bisphenol A [BPA], DEHA and the class of chemicals known as phthalates have the most damaging effects on little bodies that are still developing.
